My 2020 Holygrails of Korean Skincare
Sensitive skin is a lot more common than we think. People with sensitive skin may have reactions to certain ingredients in products like chemicals, dyes, and fragrances and reactions vary from inflammation to redness. If you are someone who struggles with sensitivity, you know how difficult it is to find the right products, because even if an item is labeled as "For Sensitive Skin" it may still contain irritating ingredients. To make your life easier, I compiled a few of my favorite Korean skincare products that are perfect for those with sensitive skin. These 5 products are not just gentle on the skin, but have beneficial ingredients that fight against breakouts and inflammation while still retaining the skin's natural moisture.
Hanskin PHA Pore Oil Cleanser
The Hanskin PHA Oil Cleanser is a 2-in-1 cleansing oil that gently exfoliates the skin while melting down makeup, sunscreen and all impurities as well. It is formulated with polyhydroxy acids, a gentle type of acid that is perfect for sensitive skin types. It also has tea tree oil, aloe vera extract and jojoba oil that helps control breakouts and maintain skin hydration. It’s very lightweight and non irritating so it’s great for those with oily and acne prone skin who may be too scared to try new products. Please keep in mind that all oil cleansers are meant to be used as the first cleanse so make sure to follow up with a water based cleanser.
COSRX Low PH Good Morning Cleanser
The COSRX Good Morning Cleanser is a cult favorite in the Korean Beauty Industry. It is perfect for most skin types, especially those with sensitive and acne prone skin. It contains tea tree oil which has antibacterial properties and will fight against breakouts. This cleanser is also non irritating and will not strip the skin of it’s natural oils.
Etude House SoonJung PH 5.5 Relief Toner
The Etude House Soon Jung Relief Toner is a really great product packed with lots of hydrating ingredients, like Propanediol, glycerin and Betaine. By keeping the skin properly hydrated, it helps it appear more plump and supple, and also helps address surface dullness by combating the buildup of dead skin cells. What is really amazing about this toner is that it doesn’t just increase hydration levels, but it also has soothing and calming properties. One of their ingredients is scutellaria baicalensis root extract which has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-allergic functions. The ingredient list as a whole is very clean and provides a lot of benefits to the skin. This toner has done wonders for repairing my skin’s moisture barrier, and it’s my go to whenever I use a product that irritates my skin or causes breakouts. It helps with dehydrated skin, irritated and inflamed skin, and I highly recommend this for extremely sensitive and acne prone skin types.
Some By Mi AHA. BHA. PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner
This miracle toner is perfect for those with oily and acne prone skin. It is infused with AHA to slough off dead skin cells, BHA to remove excess sebum, PHA to prevent moisture loss, and tea tree to combat acne. It also has glycerin which provides hydration and niacinamide, which helps minimize enlarged pores, improve uneven skin tone and is just really amazing at keeping the skin firm and healthy. Personally, I would incorporate this product into your skincare routine slowly. It may be a bit strong for some people so I would recommend using it twice a week, or at most every other day just to see your skin’s reaction.
Purito Centella Unscented Recovery Cream
If you are someone with sensitive and reactive skin, this moisturizer is for you! It offers great hydration for combination to oily skin types, and soothes inflammation and redness with centella asiatica extract and beta-glucan. It hydrates with squalane, glycerin, sodium hyaluronate, and ceramides, and is also formulated with niacinamide to improve uneven skin tone, diminish dullness and strengthen a weakened surface. This is one of my favorite moisturizes to calm irritated skin, and repair the skin's moisture barrier. This does have a thick consistency, but I think it absorbs well into the skin without feeling heavy or greasy. They have two versions, one with witch hazel and one without. I personally prefer the one without witch hazel, but if you like witch hazel and your skin doesn't have an issue with it, feel free to try it!
