Fungal Acne (Malassezia) Safe Skincare Products
What is Fungal Acne? Fungal acne is a skin condition known as Malassezia folliculitis, which is caused by the build up and infection of hair follicles by the yeast malassezia on the skin. The yeast infection can lead to acne like symptoms, but will not go away with common acne treatment. Fungal acne often appears in small uniform bumps in clusters. Unlike regular acne, these bumps do not often have heads and can be extremely itchy.
La Roche Posay Toleraine Purifying Foaming Cleanser
This is my favorite drugstore cleanser for oily and acne prone skin types. This is a foaming cleanser that will really help remove excess oil/sebum without over stripping the skin. It’s gentle enough to use everyday, and is a product I believe should be a staple skincare product for oily skin types. It contains glycerin and ceramides to keep the skin hydrate, and niacinamide, which is anti-acne and anti-inflammatory, and will help repair the skin barrier. If you have more dry skin, I would look into their gentle hydrating version. Both are amazing cleansers, non irritating and will really replenish the skin.
Rovectin Skin Essential Conditioning Cleanser
The Rovectin Cleanser and the La Roche Posay Foaming Cleanser are pretty similar to me. In terms of consistency and how it leaves the skin feeling, they are identical. Instead of Ceramides and Niacinamide, the Rovectin Cleanser is jammed pack with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycine, arginine, valine, and more. I would definitely recommend this cleanser for normal, combination and oily skin types, and those with dehydrated and acne prone skin.
Isntree Green Tea Fresh Toner
This is an amazing toner for combination to oily skin types. It provides lightweight hydration, without feeling heavy on the skin. It has a watery consistency, with an earthy and herbal scent to it. This is a fragrance free, essential oil free and alcohol free toner that focuses on relieving stress and soothing the skin. Key ingredients are camellia sinensis leaf extract, otherwise known as green tea, and centella asiatica extract, two amazing antioxidants that are anti-inflammatory, and great for calming down irritated skin. I highly recommend this toner if you have oily skin that is sensitive and acne prone. It’s very gentle on the skin, with low risk of irritation.

Etude House Soon Jung Relief Toner
The Etude House Soon Jung Relief Toner is a really great product packed with lots of hydrating ingredients, like Propanediol, glycerin and Betaine. By keeping the skin properly hydrated, it helps it appear more plump and supple, and also helps address surface dullness by combating the buildup of dead skin cells. What is really amazing about this toner is that it doesn’t just increase hydration levels, but it also has soothing and calming properties. One of their ingredients is scutellaria baicalensis root extract which has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-allergic functions. The ingredient list as a whole is very clean and provides a lot of benefits to the skin. This toner has done wonders for repairing my skin’s moisture barrier, and it’s my go to whenever I use a product that irritates my skin or causes breakouts. It helps with dehydrated skin, irritated and inflamed skin, and I highly recommend this for extremely sensitive and acne prone skin types.
Maelove Antioxidant Serum
If you love vitamin c, but don’t like the unpleasant smell of metallic meat that most vitamin c serums have, the Maelove Antioxidant Serum may be one for you to look into. This is a fragrance free and alcohol free serum that does not have a scent. It’s formulated with L-ascorbic acid aka pure vitamin c, and ferulic acid, which essentially boosts the photoprotection abilities of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is great for increasing collagen production, fading hyperpigmention/dark spots, and boosting UV protection under sunscreen. It’s very lightweight and does not feel sticky on the skin at all. I would recommend refrigerating this product as Vitamin C tends to oxidize quickly. Without refrigeration, this product will turn yellow within 4-6 weeks, but keeping it cold will allow it to last for months. This serum is also said to be a dupe for the highly raved about $166 Skinceuticals Vitamin C E Ferulic Acid serum.

Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner
If you have more dry or dehydrated skin, the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid toner is a must have. Hyaluronic acid is great for dry skin as it attracts and holds onto moisture in skin cells to allow skin to feel more hydrated and plump overtime. Hyaluronic Acid also helps reduce the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles retaining moisture to the skin. This toner does a great job at protecting the skin’s moisture barrier and preventing water loss and dehydration. It also contains aloe leaf extract and panthenol, two amazing ingredients that help calm down any redness or inflammation on the skin.

DRMTLGY Broad Spectrum SPF45
This is one of the few fungal acne safe sunscreens that I found and absolutely love. It should work fine for most skin types, unless you have extremely oily skin. It’s very moisturizing, so I can see some people thinking it’s a bit heavy on their skin if they tend to overproduce oil/sebum. It leaves a beautiful iridescent finish, and if you enjoy that radiant and dewy look, this is perfect for you. When you first apply it, it does look like it will leave a white cast, but after a few minutes, it completely disappears. Depending on your skin type, you can very much get away with just using this as your moisturizer and sunscreen. It’s formulated with niacinamide, to brighten skin complexion, and glycerin and sodium hyaluronate, to keep the skin hydrated and plump.
